When Critical Thinking and Creativity Go Wrong

Millennial prankWith all the external stimulation present in today’s society, it is easy to understand why the  emerging generation of workers becomes bored almost immediately with the repetitive tasks of many front line jobs.  Such was the was case with a young parking lot attendant at a theme park that shall remain nameless.

Frustrated with the idea that he was to spend the day in the sun pointing thousands of incoming cars into various lots, he decided to play a game just to keep himself occupied.  As the multitude of drivers approached him,

he flagged all the white cars into one lot and all other colors into another.  Being a busy summer day, it took less than an hour to fill the one lot with hundreds of white automobiles mostly from rental agencies from a certain airport in central Florida.

Nothing was said until evening when thousands of patrons returned to find themselves unable to locate their car among hundreds of similar models. The last of these irritated souls left for home several hours after the park closed. How would you deal with someone like this? What can you learn from this story to better manage your stimulation-craving young contributors?
